Mike-Tried the Aquaseal; your post prompted me to go into the basement and check on the results, and voila! it worked! Didn't do a real stress test beyond just bending the pad around, but I'm optimistic; I'm still going to glue a piece of raft or Zodiac repair fabric over the whole area as a fail-safe.
For others who might need to fix their pads, I used the extra thick Aquaseal; I expect the thin stuff might not stay put. Screw Thule!-Greg
