You're taking "Grab Loop" literal. Most people have some kind or tube or shaft on the end because if you want to carry some necessity things, the boat gets heaver and ropes alone get uncomfortable for a carry. Plus they wear out at the friction junction where the rope enteres the kayak and will have to be replace in about 3 years depending on use etc.
