And heres a good shot of the bottom, through the cockpit. As you can see, my first selection of boards as a new kayak builder was not the best. With all the blind enthusiasm that a rookie builder can have, I thought "those knots will be no problem". They proved trickier than clear wood but a little time on the ROS and the fairing board made everything smooth (since the knots made my plane useless on the hull). The little curved inlay is two layers of redwood with pine layered in-between. The knots, even though they made fairing the hull more laborious, gives the boat a great "antiqued" look that fits the pattern on the top (I think).
