My brother's Chesapeake 17 was called 'Krummholtz' after the subalpine fir that is found in higher elevations and gnarled and twisted by wind and snowdrifts.

We were stopped at a gas station one time (you always get comments at gas stations), and a German fellow pondered the boat and mused, "Hmm...Krummholtz...'bent wood', I like it!"
