Hi Folks,
A quick question. I sanded down my boat this weekend in prep'n for the varnishing job. (I used System 3 epoxy, plan on using Captain's varnish). My question is really about sanding through the epoxy and starting to sand into the glass (not the wood). How many spots of sanding into the glass is too much? Seems I did this quite a bit. I was using 120 grit with my ROS. I haven't done a finer grit pass yet. I reviewed Nick's S&G Night heron because I remembered he had a good example of sanding through to the glass. It looks just like his picture...only it occurred much more on my boat than his example of one spot. This is my first boat and first real fiberglass work so naturally I'm questioning myself at most major points in the process. The Pygmy manual states not to worry about slight sanding into the glass, that the varnish will take care of it. I guess I'm concerned about weakening the boat and/or making it more susceptible to water damage...although I did use a saturation coat. So, any pointers or words of advice from ye ol' wise ones about this? Perhaps it is just common...i sure don't want to re-epoxy/sand the boat again. Many thanks for your comments.
