It started with my first kayak, an Otter Explorer Double, bought 1978. She has been used a lot since then and is still going strong. Not so much used nowadays when I have access to strippers. In my little world all boats, except icebreakers and tugboats, are females.
I´ve allways been interested in mythologi, nordic, northamerica and inuit.
In nordic mythologi there is a sea giant YMER(Neptun or Poseidon). He and Ran has nine daughters, the waves that sometimes come nine by nine. Ofcourse these daughters has names.
The Otter was named UNN.
1999 I named my first strip-kayak, a Kavat, HRÖNN.
Next year I built two more Kavat´s, BYLGJA and KOLGA, and a Panache who was named DUVA.
2001 I built a ShootingStar and gifted my daughter. This SS was named after one of the fertility godess Freja´s two daughters, GERSIMI. The second daughters name HNOSS have I reserved for the kayak I will build to my wife.
Next kayak, an Ylva, was named by me to BORA, but the buyer wanted her to be named GÄFVAN.
