If you provide some details on the dimensions of your body and your paddle, perhaps we can come up with some suggestions. One thing that makes a big difference is the stroke you use. The canted stroke creates much more bite than keeping the blades vertical in the water. You can get info on it at www.qajaqusa.org. The shape of the paddle (the cross section in particular) can have a large impact on its performance. I find a paddle with a more lens-shaped cross section works better than flatter paddles.
