Will Doug-fir GP be Too Heavy?

During house renos last year we pulled out a bunch of Douglas-fir 2 X 4 studs. These were milled in ~1972 and are tight grained which means quite heavy. I saved these thinking I might come up with a suitable project in the future.

GP's that I have fondled in the past have been quite light. Will I find this tight grained wood too heavy after paddling a carbon Euro paddle?
