I did a cardboard contour outline and cut it to fit that. I think I used my bandsaw, but don't remember for sure. Sanding would be a problem, especially if you have your cheek plates installed. I want the foam block comprising my seat a little wide so that it's a bit tight between the cheek plates. I do find the seat rather dry as kayak seats go, but it's a wet environment so you have to deal with it.
Lots of mistakes in mine, but most of them hidden. It doesn't help my ego any that I hang out with people like Ted Henry and Reg Lake, who build seriously beautiful boats. I just keep repeating my mantra: "Boat, not furniture. Boat, not furniture."
: Ken, how did you get the bottom contour? Sometime back someone here mentioned
: tacking sandpaper to the bottom and rubbing the seat down accordingly.
: This was my first boat, and fun to build. A few mistakes, nothing serious.
: I'm also looking for a seat that keeps my rear dry, my boat gets some
: hunting and fishing use. I usually don't use the skirt, therefore get a
: little water inside.
