If you have never been in a K1 it is quite an experience.

I have a friend from Hungary who brought one over. He followed my building of a Great Auk with interest. A couple of months after I finished my boat he invoted me over to paddle with him. We went out on a smooth water canal behind his house...me in my Great Auk and he in his K1. He had not been out in a couple of months and was a little unsteady at first...unsteady but fast.

He asked if I wanted to give the K1 a whack. the first thing I noticed was that the seat had to go. It was up an inch and a half. I knew I was going to need all the help I could get. While my friend held the boat...after managing to get my hips into the the very small cockpit and carefully avoiding the upward sticking bolt for the seat... he set me free. I immediately went into a wild alternating series of braces just trying to keep dry. Eventually I got the boat going which stabilized things for a couple of exhausting minutes until I caught a blade and turned turtle....what a humbling experience. I geve it a couple of more tries...but the end result was eventually the same.

My friend told me a story about his teenage daugther who had a bunch of friends over. They saw is K1 and wanted to give it a try. 15 tried and nobody did anything but immediately dump it. He congratulated me on setting the guest paddler record in his K1.

At 6'2" - 205lbs...I think I sit way to high for that boat.

It was fun.
