G'day,
I'm just putting ideas together and picking a design for my next adventure. I was wondering if you could run lines of different woods/colours that cross the shearline? Like running the initial strips in a wavy pattern that crosses once or twice. I realize this will require cutting through them to separate hull and deck, as well as some extra time stripping the shapes they create, but are there any other setbacks? Has anyone done this and have pics they could email me or post? (chance to show off your boats again)
I'm still pondering design ideas too: I'm 5'9, 165lbs, 9 size feet and looking for something that is 17ft or less, stable enough to bring along and have novices paddle, hold enough for a day or two trip, and light to medium weight. Tracking is more important than turning, and it doesn't need the ability to do rolls easily. I'm pondering a Guillemot, Redfish Spring Run & Cape Ann Storm....but I haven't had the time to research very much.
Also, I'm still a novice and unsure what a 'brace' is, although I have an idea. Can someone fill me in?
Many thanks,
James
