Quentin,

Don't pull off the strips! I'm also a first-time Guillemot builder and I've had the same problem. The bow is going well but the stern was pulling away by about 3/4" on the last form on the strongback. I finally thought to place a ratchet-type band clamp on this area and tighten it down. Initially they still didn't touch but after 24hrs (and one more gentle tightening) they gave in. I'm going out to buy two more band clamps today.

PS I wish I'd have asked the question on the BBS. I had two days of wailing and gnashing of teeth before I figured out the band clamp thing.
