Hi'

Ready to put the first strips on my Guillemot Expedition Single, but of course a friend drops by, showing off his new toy, a portable thickness plane.

Now is the question : Should i run all strips through the tickness plane first, or just get on with it, and do it by hand afterwards ?

Strips are 58-60mm's thick, but the saw has made some tracks on the WRC strips. Oregon Pine does not have so bad tracks, but i gather i will have to plane/sand off, at least 0,5 millimters, anyway.

Which is best ?

I ran a couple of WRC strips through the thickness plane, and they got a really neat surface, with minimum/none tear-out, about as Nick describes in his book.

How much (or little) will i have to plane/sand manually afterwards, if the strips has been through the thickness plane first ?

Is it worth the trouble to plane the strips first ?

Opinions are most welcome, as i have a feeling, this could be a matter of "relgion", more than anything else.
