: ...er, workshop.

: Well the boat saw daylight for the first time this afternoon. The kayak was
: carried through the kitchen, into the living room and a 2 point turn back
: through the french doors and onto the back deck (Dave was paid a couple of
: scotches for his efforts). We had 6" to spare in a couple of our
: turns.

: I still have lots of glassing and sanding to do especially on the hull. The
: deck is pretty well done. The hatches are already cut out although you
: can't see them very well in this photo. They are held in place by magnets.

: Tomorrow I will be doing the end pours. I will lean the boat up against our
: birch tree and pour an epoxy mix into the tips of the bow and stern as a
: top up. I already installed "dams" and filled 90% of the end
: pour before the hull and deck were joined. Then I need to install the
: forward bulkhead and fiddle with the seat. Eventually I will install the
: Schade style foot rests. The rear bulkhead is already in place just behind
: the seat. I have built in a day hatch but again you cannot see it in this
: photo.

: Next weekend will be the initial launch although I will not have deck bungies
: and perimeter lines in place yet. Varnishing will come this winter after I
: have done some paddling this fall.

: After 9 months in the house it sure looks small on the back lawn!

: As many others have said before me a big thank you to Nick for providing this
: BB and thanks to everyone who posts, I have sure learned a lot from all of
: you. In fact my wife says I have learned enough that I should be able to
: build the front deck this fall! doh!

Nice work Grant! After 9 months in the house I'd say that qualifies as a birth of sorts, huh? Not much longer to go now though. Of course that front deck will have to wait until you done a decent amount of paddling I'm sure. My wife had a similar revelation about my skills and suddenly I have a list of intimidating projects to coordinate and execute (not to mention expensive).
I should be right with you next weekend. I had hoped to do a "preliminary" launch this weekend but the weather was not cooperating this past week. I too am going to launch without rigging because I will be painting the whole thing later.
Did you by any chance make a spray skirt? I started mine yesterday and promptly screwed up the cockpit cover part. Figures, I had one piece of neoprene so I was a target for Murphy. Better go get some nylon fabric this week if I want a skirt for next weekend.

Have fun launching, I look forward to seeing the pics!
