Good suggestions so far. Beadless has its advantages and B&C does too. With B&C you get alignment with the adjacent strips more easily. With beadless, you have greater certainty that the joints between your strips are tight. Both ways work and both have their pitfalls.
Beadless is easier than it sounds. It is easy to plane the narrow strip. The idea originally occurred to me when I was doing an elaborate decorative strip and couldn't figure out how to B&C them. I use a rabbet plane. The cheek of the rabbet plane rides directly against the station molds and creates a perfect winding bevel for the next strip to sit on. Here is a shot of the rabbet plane beveling one of the strips.
