I was just looking at the Wilderness Systems Tempest. It has a drop down skeg. I'm wondering about the efficacy of putting something like that on the Guillemot I'm building for my wife.
I'm concerned that the Guillemot might not track as well as she'd like. I mentioned putting a rudder on it and she said, "I don't know how to use a rudder!" While I think she could easily learn, I'm also thinking that I wouldn't mind avoiding the added time and effort to put on a rudder - a skeg looks easier.
We paddle mostly on open water - a large bay or the ocean, and most of our paddling is in a straight line, so I'm thinking tracking would be important.
Any thoughts, anyone? Thanks in advance.
