deep six, it's less of a pain than the entire labor involved in gluing the sheerclamps,rounding the sheerclamps, planing the sheerclamps, cleaning up the bags of shavings,sealing the sheerclamps,gluing deck, nailing, setting nails, rounding the sheer, and glassing the deck of a CHesapeake.
It's a different process is all. If it wasn't an efficient method then strip boats wouldn't be butt jointed at the deck/hull.
I've only done three hulls this way, a Golden Eye 13, Coho, and Merganser. You can do the cockpit in one section, and do the end compartments through the hatches in another section.
When you see directions for rolling 8' lengths of rolled up and wet tape it's an instruction coming from someone who's done it a lot and can do it well. I don't see the need to do it all through the cockpit. Just like on a Chesapeake you don't need to clamp the spacers and coaming all at once because that's what the directions say.
Same here, gather info and make that boat,,there have to be a lot of ex Northbay owners still wanting a skinny and long kayak that has foot room and can be paddled in waves.
