I like to buy stuff as I need it. I think it's fun to kind of learn as you go. I built my S&G boat with a handheld jigsaw, a hand drill, a good electric sander, a block plane and sharpening stones. For the stripper, you'll want to add a tablesaw or bandsaw. I also use a scrollsaw for fabricating small parts... a dust collection system is really good too - wish I had that.
