You gotta keep em sharp and fiddle with em a bit. Too much blade and they can stick and too little and they aren't cutting. Also try cutting at an angle, that really works pretty well. As a last bit of advice that works for me and I don't know why. If you've got a kind of tight inside curve you're trying to shape, wet the wood a bit. Then take nice slow strokes and it seems to be stutter free. More than anything, just work with the tool and keep it sharp and you'll be fine.
