Mike: I was on the phone this morning with the product support folk at REI regarding Yakima applications for the Taurus/Sable. REI said that Yakima recomends substituting the factory rack with Yakima's standard tower and bar setup. I asked as to weight rating, at which point they refered to Ford. Someone I know with a 99 Sable wagon says his owners manual is ambiguous, but metions something about 100 pounds. I thought I saw specs on the '03 Taurus wagon that said 220 pounds could go on the roof. I am now trying to contact Ford to determine what weight the rack can handle.

As for the truck, it would actually be my 1st choice, but a truck, even with extended cab, would not be comfortable if my wife and three kids (That's why we paddle a Triple) come with me. The new 4 door trucks are too new and expensive.
