Does your buddy like to doctor photos? That looks like trick photography... but the USS Carl Vinson would have been in that area - returning from a (much hyped) 8-month tour of duty. I think that picture is possible from up the hill with a really long lens. I think Carl Vinson was deployed to the Korean Penninsula. The water is deep enough; I think the picture is authentic.
