I have seen the Volkskayak sight and a few other refereces to take apart S&G kayaks. The method of puting in 2 bulkheads with pre-instaled bolts, then cutting the boat between the 2 bulkheads and adding a gasket to keep the water out works well for S&G.

My question is if anyones knows if a strip built would be strong enought to withstand this type of mystreatment. It seams to me that the epoxi provides the strength along the edges, and so it should work well enough.

My problem is that I would not be able to get anything longer than 13 to 14 ft out of my basement, and I am not sure I want to build a strip built kayak in my carport. Nebraska winters can be nasty, and spring can be very wet.

It may be that of these 2 solutions the carport may produce the best results, if not quite as comfortable for the builder.
