A third possibility, perhaps useful for a keel, is to bevel both plywood
edges, and have a hardwood strip in between. I haven't tried this, and I
guess you'd need to build on a strongback to make it work well, but as
the keel is the place where you are most likely to bash on rocks, it would
be useful to have wood of slightly greater thickness and much greater
compressive strength here. The greater thickness would mean you could
sand to a larger radius, also an advantage from the impact/abrasion point
of view. But if your strip was of any significant width, you'd need to adjust
the size of the ply panels to compensate. You'd be getting into a sort of
hybrid strip/S+G idea. It might be visually interesting to do the same for
the chines.

I was thinking of doing something along these lines for my next strip hull -
a thick ash strip along the keel, planed to the right section, and with the
cedar strips butted up to the sides.

Just another idea to make it harder to decide :-)
