It depends on what you want. If you what a quiet paddle, sharp edges will have the most effect. The tip shape, as long as it comes to an edge, has little effect. If you what a paddle with "high lift" a thicker edge will be better. My favorite paddle has no shoulders and 1/16 thick edge the blade thickness is about 3/4 inch at the thickest.
