No plans Paul... I think the picture is a pretty good description? Its about 7' long, and cut away in the middle so I clamp the paddle at the loom, and can work both ends without unclamping it. THen I turn it over, and do the other side of both ends.
THe bevelled side is for carving with power tools. Sometimes I use holly or ash on the edges, and a plane just wont work. THe 30 degree angle is just right for using a belt sander to carve with.
THe straight side is both for cleaning up the edges - I sight down it and run the plane to flatten up each face - and I also have added an angleiron to it so I can use it as a jig for laying up laminated blanks on.
THe top at about 2" wide is just right. Wider, and the drawknife has a hard time getting into the shoulders to rough them in. Too much narrower and there isnt sufficient clamping surface to hold it still. IT take two clamps to hold the paddle so I can work it - both on the loom, about 10" apart.
THe whole affair is then screwed down to a custom built sawhorse in my shop, which puts it at a comfortable height. In the picture, its attached to a picnic table, which is about a foot too low for my comfort.
I can take more pictures and email them if you like, send me a note. -Don
: What's this Don Beale paddle horse? Looks like just the thing I've been
: looking for. I'm tired of struggling holding down the angled blank on my
: workbench where I don't have good access to all sides. Any plans or
: descriptions?
: Thanks, Paul
