: Driving home from a week in the Queen Charlottes ( see trip board) we found
: that a hatch cover was missing . the bow hatch of a Great Auk. I doubt
: that it will ever be found and I'm not about to re trace the journey of 17
: hrs...
: Lesson learned --- always hook up a tether of some sort.!!
: So now a new one must be made. Hard to make the strips look like the old ones
: so I think I'll use similar but different wood and out line the outer edge
: of the new hatch with a contrasting thin border. ??
: Any body have any ideas to make a new hatch that would look good.??
: Regards Terry
Agreed, I lost mine off my Guillemot as well. Now I always check the hatch when transporting
The replacement worked out quite well though. I used a muti coloured ( walnut &white pine )contrasting border strip around the edge to accent. This way you do not notice that the hatch strips do not line up with the rest of the deck. You may wish to dress it up further ( I used a multi shade compas rose inlayed in the centre ). Be careful when you glass, the hatch wanted to distort in the curing process as only one side was done at once.
