: So now that you are at 220# what are you looking at for a new kayak?
: Roger
I'm still an apprentice in question of kayak building, so I just want to practice a little on a "modified" Guillemot Exp. Just trying to avoid most of the mistakes I did on the "L", and perhaps develop my woodworking skills by making a simple pattern that cross the shear line. I have just finished stripping the new hull. I had to loosen it from the strongback last week to straighten the shear line with a plane. It worked fine, and the hull is back on the strongback, and I have started to strip the deck.
I use norwegian pine, aspen, cherry and walnut, and hope this will be nice.
I'm not sure about the final pattern yet, I change my mind every day.. ( it's so many nice patterns to see on this board), but I think my skills will decide what I can do or not.
I want my new kayak to be a little faster, have a little better secondary stability and handle rough sea a little smoother than the "L". I'm still a novice to paddling, and I can't learn anything without testing my possibilities and limits. I hope the new kayak can expand my limits a little, both in woodworking skills and paddling skills.
The picture shows the new hull.
Best regards
Tom
