i am building the guillemot right from nicks book. i just finished the deck today, and will start the cockpit tommorw.

i milled all my own strips from cedar, which is not 3/4 inch but 5/8 inch.

i got about 13 usable (16 total) strips from the best sorted 1x6 boards. i liked the 10 foot lenghts best for getting the fewest scarfs. easiest to mill by myself, and they fit in my car own for pick up, not delivery.

i used qty8 1x6x8 foot, qty3 1"x6"x10 foot, and qty1 1"x8"X10 foot i ran out of strips and had to get some more is the reason for variety. I also found that my lumber yard the 1x8 cedar is 3/4 not 5/8 so i got a little more use from them. i bought the 8 footers befor realizing the ten footers were all around easier to use.

there are plenty of strips left over that have knots and are poorly cut or have checks ect. good enough for the recess and coping.
