In Response To: Strip: Beginners question? (Randy Wright)

Hi there... I just finished building my second boatout of the wood I cut for the first boat. I tried all different lengths (11', 14', 16')and got about 140 or so strips from 1x4 and 1x6 stock (10 strips from 1x4 and about 19 from 1x6). I had plenty of left over and only needed to cut 4 extra strips to finish the second boat! Also, if you are going to build your first boat, use cove and bead strips. I found that now I have enough experience with a blane to create rolling bevels needed without cove and bead. Cove and bead is more work when fairing but it is worth it just to not have to worry about bevelling. Also, the routing of the cove and bead goes really quick if you set up the router table well.

Either way, have fun and good luck with your addiction! (it will be an addiction!)
