I did that for my very first wood working project, a cradle...
I feel there is no more dangerous looking saw, but if I don't have the blade guard on my contractor saw now... and I don't... whats the difference?
The lifespan of your little saw is giong to be reduced as the poor little motor tries to do its best for ya... Its not as strong as a whats in the cheep table saws... But its worth it to build a kayak.
