No need for me to forgive your naivete. I'm sure there are many subjects you know much better than I....and I'm certainly not the most knowledgeable of the people who post on here. I doubt if pictures would help. Hard to describe but Polyester seems a little more porous and less hard than epoxy...and it is actually. Probably the majority of the expensive bass boats, etc. are made with polyester/fiberglass, so you can see that it is hard to tell the difference...unless you know the difference. If it's an old boat it probably is made with polyester. Research this, but I believe you can repair polyester with epoxy. The polyester uses a catalyst and cures very fast with lots of heat. Epoxy is much better. Don't get in any hurry. Ask more questions...get more answers...then...get after it. and don't get frustrated.
