: I need to rip a bunch of
: strips. Common wisdom is a nice big table saw.

You can also use a bandsaw. Kerf may be thinner, surface finish probably a
bit rougher (so a little more planing/sanding after stripping). But the
bandsaw is useful for lots of other jobs like cutting out forms, trimming
strips or anything else to a curved shape, and even for cutting closed cell
foam for bulkheads ... I've built one stripper and one hybrid cutting all
my strips on a 12" bandsaw. The pic shows a Scots pine board in the saw
for the deck of my hybrid cormorant. The sticky-up clamps on the left hold
a piece of wood clamped to the fence which holds the board flat to the
table/extensions. The piece of wood with the aluminium angle on it in front
is what I use to push the board into the fence with my right hand whilst
feeding the board in with my left. The table extensions are long enough
that I can cut ten foot boards (the longest I have) into strips without
assistance. I tend to cut a few strips at a time, but not a whole boat's
worth. For Geyrfugl, I kept aside those strips which showed an interesting
figure in book-matched pairs, but mostly I cut strips to meet the needs
of the strips I could put on the boat the same day.
