In Response To: Material: Himalayan Cedar? (deodora) (Martin Farnham)
For WIIW: There are NO "cedars" indigenous to the Americas. All the trees commonly known as "cedar" that are native to the americas are actually in the Cypress family. True cedars, native to Africa, Europe, and Asia, are in the Pine family. Deodora is a good strong wood, and it is very similar to Lebanon cedar in character, one of the prefered woods for boat/ship building in that part of the world in ancient times.
