You bring up an interesting point regarding redwood. All of my strippers,
and one SOF ( non-traditional) were built with Redwood. Unlike Cedar, I
was always able to find no knot or very small and very few knots in boards
of up to 20 ft length but in a lower grade,B-C I believe ??. At that time,
these lower grade boards were much less expensive than clear cedar in my area
(Denver). That was several years ago, so I'm not sure of the cost of Redwood
today.

In paddle making, I must admit that cedar is easier to work with. Redwood
tends to be brittle, (read splinters), and is more difficult to sand. As was
mentioned earlier, Redwood is not a good wood for stream bending.

But what do I know, I rip strips with a circular saw. ha!
