Hey gang,

I did something stupid and here I am begging for help (cudo's to Nick for this site and the recent mention in WoodenBoat)!! I started a Redbird in FL (60 to 70% relative humidity) and recently moved to MT (10 to 15% RH). The boat had glass on the outside, but not the inside. It made the trip fine, but over the last two to three days, it has shrunk as the wood seems to be drying out.

Several cracks have appeared, which could be fixed, but there seems to be "ripples" in the outer glass at each cracked strip. There is a very slight "whitening" of the area where the glass seems to be a bit stretched. If I just fix the strips and finish out the inside, the inside will be fine.

I am worried about the outside. Should I sand off the entire glass layer and re-apply it? Can I just sand it a little, add some epoxy and fair it out? Will the "ripples" show up under the varnish? I am not looking forward to sanding off the glass and having to re-fair the hull!!

Boy - never saw this one coming!!
