: I found the whole power tool saftey thing (as distinguished from the saftey
: thing in general) amusing since the last two tool-human negative
: interactions (fsck-ups) were pure hand tool.
I was about halfway through building my first kayak, after numerous hours in close proximity to spinning sawblades and router bits, when I had my first bleeder. What was I doing, you ask??? (well maybe you didn't, but I'll tell you anyway). I was slicing potatoes for dinner with one of those V-shaped Ronco slicy-dicy thingies, and I sliced the tip of my thumb off. The kitchen, it turns out, is a dangerous place. Who knew??? My only bleeder actually related to the kayak was a chisel accident. I should have seen it coming, and in fact I did. I thought to myself "I shouldn't do it this way", but I was tired and in a hurry, so went ahead and did it anyway, and I got what I deserved -- seven stitches in my palm.
