Nickle, that's a great shot,,let us know what you think of the two boats over different conditions, especially wind and rescue practice.
Regarding pointy ends,,just because line drawings on a piece of paper come to a point and tapered pieces of plywood come to a point that doesn't mean the KAYAK should have ends pointy enough to chip at the slightest impact or impale your head, hands or heart. Makes absolutely no sense to make the boat dangerous to be around,,and swinging a 16' kayak with spearlike ends is dangerous,,,but mostly it's when it's on the ground and someone walks into it that is a problem. I'd take a saw and do just what Nick shows, whack a chunk off, round it over and glass it when the hull/deck is glassed.
Tennis balls tied on actually are a great idea if you really are paddling in the surf zone. Try it sometime. It's a lot easier to grap a tennis ball than a slippery sharp thing while looking for the toggle.
If I was paddling with folks and someone came towards me with a sharp bow I'd let them know they were dangerous. Try doing hip snap practice off of someones bow and that'll be a good lesson for how rounded you'd like the bow to be. Nothing like the golden rule.
