Thanks for the responses, guys. The oil seems to have dried quite well since last night, but I didn't put much on, then rubbed it in pretty thoroughly with a rag. I don't think I've given the wood much protection yet, but after a pool rolling session this weekend, I'll do some more sanding and sealing. The paddle looks great! I ended up making it 72" long, with the loom being 14", and the max width of the blade at 3". I'm used to euro paddles, so it looks like a skinny stick to me. Calder was all smiles, and is eager to try it. As for the old linseed oil- I'm not sure, but I may have purchased it to finish a dulcimer I built in 1973. Still seems the same. Pretty stable product!
