A year after finishing my wood strip canoe I decided to apply a second layer of fiberglass with graphite epoxy to the football. I was tired of the eternal touch-up trying to maintain a pristine bottom.
I mixed epoxy/graphite with a little collodial silica added(for hardness). My ratios were 65:30:05.
The stuff went on as thick as whipped margarine and left a stipple on the surface from the roller. As I applied it I tipped it off with a foam brush to help lay down the stipple. It cured to a smooth, hard bowling ball blackness.
You cam also buff the finished product with 0000 steel wool to give it a fine brushed finish. I left mine shiny black.
