I'm not a traditionalist, either. However, coming from a Q/A / Q/C background, I found the process to be very liberating once I "let go", so to speak. Obviously, I didn't let go completely, as evidenced by the rib jig and a few other largely unnecessary steps I take. ;-)
One of these days, I guess I'll have to build one with only hand tools, using only my body parts as measuring gauges.
