: I think the preference for the bandsaw was in reference to reducing waste
: because of a thinner kerf. For straightness, consistancy and a smooth
: finish the tablesaw is a better choice.

I tried ripping my strips on an old table say which had an undefined problem. No matter how careful I was setting up the fence everything would bind up. I was pushing on the wood way hard. Not something pleasent to contemplate when pushing toward the blade. I had finger boards only upstream of the blade. I went to a bandsaw with short fence. I had resisted this due to fears of ability to make straight cuts with short fence and flexible blade. Bottom line I got better cuts, The softwoods went through like butter. The surface was slightly rougher but one or two psses through the planer solved that. My advice would be try the table saw but if you have problems the bandsaw can work great.
