: Hi all,

: When I taped the inside deck/hull shear joint with fiberglass tape on my S&G,
: one side has a raised edge. I think this is due to a selvage sewn into the
: edge of the tape to prevent the tape from unraveling. Anyway it is bumpy
: and sharp. I am trying now to sand it down a bit so it is smoother inside
: the kayak.

: My question is whether I must recoat with epoxy the areas where I have sanded
: down into the glass (at the edge of the tape). With the glass edges
: exposed will it absorb moisture? The glass I have sanded into is fully
: saturated with epoxy so I would think it is still encapsulated, but I
: don't know for sure.

: Thanks,

I'm pretty sure that no water will enter if you're sure the glass is fully saturated with resin but I'd be inclined to at least apply a thin coat of resin to seal the frayed edges just to keep from getting glass slivers in you when you rub up against that seam. Even if it's in a location you don't normally rub against, someone will sometime. You could just paint on some resin with a skinny brush and go over it with a squeegee to smooth it out some. Do it the last thing before you're done working on the boat for the day and it'll be set by morning.
