I am up to the stage of fiberglassing my Merganser 16.
I have placed a layer of 4oz glass over the hull, reinforcing it with a second layer under the seat and some 9oz tape down the keel.
The cockpit has 6oz glass inside and the hull and deck panels are joined with 6oz tape cut from cloth with two layers of 9oz tape along the inside of the shear line.
My question is should I bother glassing the deck or just epoxy it. I have enough 6oz glass to do the deck. Is this an overkill? What is the likely weight penalty?
Here is a picture of the glassed hull. Note that I have not trimmed the edges of the reinforcing 4oz cloth under the seat.
Any opinions?
