: So, am getting ready to order my first kit and go for it. I don't have a
: proper build space, so I am planning to build a sort of tent. I've been
: looking at posts about these 'hoop houses' greenhouse kind of things. I
: saw Rehd's blue tarp covered structure. I plan to use 6-mil clear plastic.
: Questions: 1. Anyone else built over the winter in a structure like this, and
: how did it work out?
: 2. I am hoping to create enough "greenhouse" effect to be able to
: epoxy in the winter. Anyone know what kinds of temperature differences I
: can expect between outside and in given a sunny day in the 40s-50s? I'll
: probably have that through December, hopefully will be to glassing stage
: by then.
: 3. Can I safely heat such a structure with lamps as Rehd has or other means?
: I'd be leaving it unattended at night. I am wondering if I can create a
: "micro tent" inside the big tent to heat a smaller space around
: the kayak.
: 4. I have plenty of trees. Wondering if I can use them as the vertical
: supports, string 3 ropes, middle one higher, for the peak of the roof,
: side ones lower where the 'roof' would turn into 'walls' and use those as
: a very simple and cheap frame for the plastic. Just throw it over and
: stake at the ground, probably sandwiching plastic between long boards. It
: would not be a square structure, but don't think that will matter? I have
: a big privacy fence in the back yard, so neighbors would not have to look
: at it.
: Any advice for setting up shop outside in a low cost temporary tent? Can't
: spend more than about $200 on this, or else won't be able to afford a kit!
: I bought the plastic tonight, 100' roll of 10' wide 6mil. $26.00.
: Thanks!
Here's the article I used for mine.
Just using the 6mil plastic, they say it made a 5-10* difference. With any kind of heat it should be much higher.
I don't plan on building in mine, but with those lights on inside, you can certainly feel the heat.
No Greenhouse affect with these blue tarps or at least very little sun will penetrate.

This building ( mine ) is about 7' tall and 10' wide. Lots of room to work.
You could certainly build a smaller hanging tarp over the boat and the two tarps and space between would help to insulate.
I used 1" x 3" fir strips and ran screws through with plastic in between to hold the sides down, but also buried the wood in dirt, inside and out.
I hope that you are able to use it effectively.
