If the base coat is holding well, then a new coat or two should go on just fine.

Why are you worying about filling the weave on the S-O-F at this time?

I think George Putz expressed the view that by putting on a thin coat of paint (or varnish or polyurethane or whatever) each year you will eventually kill the weave; but until that happens you'll keep the skin flexible, and have a new-looking finish every year.

He also suggested adding ground chalk to the early coats as a filler. I suspect you could pulverize a few square feet of excess drywall (peel off the paper covering first) and mix that in. It would probably be cheaper than chalk and easier to find.
