: When building a strip-built kayak, what are the most expensive aspects of the
: project. I am planning on cutting and milling my own strips, and I am
: doing my own lofting as well (I am not purchasing any plans) Without these
: two major costs, what are the most expensive things? Also, where is the
: best place to get epoxy/resin or fiberglass? Thanks for responding.

I found the Epoxy and fiberglass to be by far the most expensive. But I used a fairly heavy lay up, and West Epoxy. There are much cheaper alternatives to west.

but then I used cedar fence boards, and live in the North West, so for me cedar for a full kayak would cost less than $50 Cdn.

I did buy a router and the bits for the project, but I'm not counting that, as I hope to find another use for it.

cheers.

Myrl
