Ceiling mounted ducts are great. Just a safety note on using PVC or any other non-conductive material. As the dust moves through the pipe it will build up a static charge which (though I've never heard of it happening) has the potential to create a spark and ignite the wood dust. If you use PVC you should run a bare copper wire through the pipe and attach one end to a ground. Also, I have been told that the internal wire increases the chances of clogs so don't glue the pipes together.

I built my ducts from steel furnace pipe that I bought at Home Depot. Its a little more expensive than PVC but I only had to run an 8" ground wire from the end of the duct to the grounding lug on the dust collector.

You will be much happier with the overhead pipes rather than rolling the dust collector around to each tool.
