Ditto with all four of my yaks, 17.5 feet, 19 feet, 18 feet and 18 feet.
To add to Chip's posting, I learned a lot from the first yak. I preferred smaller pieces to mill and work with. To minimize the look of a joint, use the right color glue. The first yak I used on the poplar hull Titebond II, a dark glue...on poplar. That was truly dumb. All the rest of the yaks I used Elmer's white glue. Zero color, dirt cheap, strong and always fun to peel the glue off the hands in big sheets. Every yak was made out of hardwoods, or hard softwoods, so bonding in the most part wasn't an issue though the ebony and purpleheart I did use a CA glue because of the oils in the wood.
Chips right on, do it nice and carefully and it's hard to notice.
