: Is a fill coat of epoxy prior to fiberglass necessary on the hull?
: Any tips for laying out cloth on hull...how do you get even neat folds around
: bow and stern?
: Thanks,

Hi Bruce:
I think you mean a saturation coat on the bare wood. It is not necessary but a good idea if you've not worked with epoxy or a squeegie before.
Mix up a couple of oz. epoxy and use a squeegie to move it around til it all soaks in. Let it dry for a few hrs, or overnight. Give it a light sand ,dust it off and you're ready for the cloth.
Lay the cloth diagonally on the hull, trim the excess leaving a few inches hanging past the sheer. I use a large soft brush to work the cloth into the curves around the hull. If the cloth doesn't lay on the bow/stern well you can trim that excess off or pinch it with a few small clamps. You will probably want to put an extra strip over the ends anyway.
You can do all the layers with one wet out ... But... for the first time I'd do one at a time. Just let the epoxy dry tack free before the next step.
Hope this helps.. Best of luck.. Terry
