I thoiught to report on the progress of the building of Nick's SG Night Heron, one of several SG kayaks that I'm helping neighbors build so that they can start to do what their crazy and often drunk neighbor is always doing. I think my wild and irresponsible actions are a bad influence! Of all the kayaks, only one chose what I insisted was the high-tech hot rod. Do they listen? No, instead there's two Coho kits, a Oprey and a Merganser 17. Dave is the only guy who listened and ordered the plans from Nick.

So today Dave and I ran about and picked up 4mm okoume plywood, some 1/2 ply and 9 8foot lengths of 2X4 pine stud. I designed a building table for Dave that breaks down easily, is stroing and rigid, and is positionally adjustable. This evening we laid everything out in his garage, sawed and ripped the plywood and 2 X $s, and assembled the building table/cradles. The high-point of the night was when Dave's neighbor brought over a heaping plate of barbequed tuna steaks and we were absolute pigs and inhaled them. After that we unrolled the plans Nick rushed out to us (thank's Nick!), and were immediately impressed by the exquisite quality and clarity of the plans. I want to point out to everyone here and now that Nick's plans are really great and well executed! This is going to be an easy kayak to build.

Tomorrow, pick up the carbon fiber and fiberglass, epoxy, some jig saw finishing blades, then scarf up some long pieces. Also, some wire...forgot the wire. More t'morrow!
